James Joyce (1882–1941) was an Irish novelist, poet, and literary critic who was known for his experimental and innovative style of writing. His works are characterized by his frequent use of the stream of consciousness technique, a trait that is encapsulated in what is arguably his most significant work, Ulysses. From an early age he was interested in languages and literature, and he made sure to challenge himself at every opportunity. For example, he learned Norwegian in order to read the works of his idol Henrik Ibsen in their original language. His own works also showed a similar tendency to break new ground. He often wrote short prose pieces which he referred to as “epiphanies”. Joyce is one of the most important writers of the 20th century. His most notable works include the short story collection Dubliners and the novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

This bookend is by the renowned Swedish industrial designer Jan Landqvist. It is made from 100% recycled steel, cut and bent, then finished with a durable black powder coating.
