Born in Hampshire, England, Jane Austen (1775-1817) began writing her first novel, Love and Freindship, at the age of 15. Soon after, she started working on what would become her masterpieces: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Emma. All of her works are set in British aristocratic society, and Austen uses humor and irony to depict various aspects of daily life. A critical perspective is particularly evident, where the customs and rituals of aristocratic society hinder the pursuit of love and happiness for her characters, especially women.

These bookends are designed by Jan Landqvist, a renowned Swedish industrial designer. They are made from 100% recycled steel, cut and bent, and finished with a durable black powder coating.
